Car Geek

Just ignore this post if your not a massive car geek like me. This is my new (to me anyway) car, I mentioned the other day I think.

Its a Vauxhall Vectra SRI, 3.0 Litre V6 CDTI engine, which developes 174 BHP with a 0-60 of circa 8 seconds. Limited to 140 Mph (although I cannot imaging going that fast). This is my baby, puts out a ridicoulous amount of power and torque on acceleration, but I still get like 400 miles to a tank.

With the traction control turned off I rekon I would kill myself on the twisty back roads where I live within about 5 minutes. I've been driving just shy of 10 years and waited a long time to pick up a lovely motor like this.

Cargasam over, I just wanted to record my lovely new toy for posterity as the wife says that when this dies (hopefully far far in the future) I have to buy something sensible...............some chance (said very quietly in case she's listening.

  1. They are nice motors the bigger engine certainly makes the difference years ago I had the LS version for a company car but its 1.8 (I think, not sure?) petrol engine struggled to pull it and as a city car it was no good parking.

  2. Cool car Smillie...I'm also a car geek, I've owned everything from Ferraris
to Volkswagons. Sold my Shelby Mustang about 5 years ago. But my favorite car is my black Subaru WRX, o to 60 in 5 seconds...I call it my last hurrah since I'm 65 years old and this will probably be my last hot rod. Good luck with your new ride..looks great.

  5. I had a Vectra for three years with my last job, mine was diesel butstill had a nice pace to it. Very happy with it and best car I have had over all but here is a warning, they are the worst cars I have EVER driven in snow or heavy ice, no traction at all and the only car I have ever had to leave at the side of the road (did it three times!)Had two Insignias on hire, first (when just came out) was the SRi top of the range and it did everything for me and I hated it. Just had one for a holiday and it was very nice but drove it only a bit so not sure how to rate it against the Vectra. Great cars that go on and on. In three years and over 100,000 miles it needed work just once for a fault that all that model had (exhaust jet blown)
    enjoy it

  6. Cheers chaps, I've driven the lower range vectra's before and you do have to thrash the pants off of them to get them going. Re snow, I'm aware its likely to be a pain (even more so given I live in rural scotland) I expect to have to ask my dad a lot for towing! :)

  7. Well done on getting that car Smillie. A couple of bags of sand in the boot come winter is supposed to be the answer according to the AA guy I spoke to to. Didn't work with my cls though it sat in the drive for a month two years ago in the great Scottish winter!!!!
    Enjoy!!

  9. I've got a BMW which has a notoriously bad reputation in the UK for poor performance in the snow. This surprised me as there's a lot more snow in Bavaria than Scotland so I did a strange thing and read the manual. Winter tyres are recommended from October to March. I changed to those and have had no problems in the last three winters. It may be worth trying.
