Heavily armed centre forwards

So i've spent the last few days working on the other half of my latest vbcw squad. Finished the last five this morning, I'm pretty happy with the results though had a bit of a cock up with the black wash I use as shading. I used it "too close" to the bottom of the pot and it must have been really concentrated or something because some of the shadows dried kind of shiny. Still its not to noticeable and you live and learn.

The full team, my first squad in the colours of Southend Football club.

I've got my three officials, and the team captain on the painting table, just need to come up with a flag carrier for the command squad. My intention is to come up with a second squad (possibly in away colours) and then a third made up of supporters, with an HMG made up of grounds staff or something.

In other news my zombies from Studio Miniatures came, they look great but as I don't usually use the big slota bases designed for those recessed resin basis I'm not quite sure how to base them.

Also ordered more for my 6mm version of the 51st Highland Division, should get enough to complete another two Battalions so I'll have two of the three Brigades completed.

Five a side

So I'm pleased to say I think I might have finally broken the 28mm malaise that has been afflicting me for the last year or so. After yesterday's zombie I finally fancied painting my perry's salute loot.

These five figures represent half (or there about's) of the figures I am painting in Southend Football clubs colours for VBCW. I've used a newish technique and I'me proper chuffed with the results, particularly after such a long break from painting more than one or two VBCW figures.

Sorry for the picture spam. I've got the rest of the team and my 3 officials undercoated and ready to paint, hope to get them done during the day tomorrow or at least started. I'm still intending to continue with my 6mm projects, but i'm pleased that my general drought seems to be over.

The dead walk again

So after a long drought I've finally painted something 28mm! This is one of the plastic Studio Miniatures multi-part Zombies (I still have a couple of sprues knocking about) I used a different technique to paint the shirt and I'm fairly pleased with the results.

A tale of two Battalions

I've spent the last couple of days working on more of my 6mm version of the 51st Highland Division. Just finished most of one Battalion which will be the 4th Battalion, The Queens Own Cameron Highlanders. Which means the 152nd Infantry Brigade is now completed, only another two infantry Brigades to do and I'll have all three of the Divisions infantry element.

Handily I've also finished most of the 4th Battalion The Black Watch which is the first of the 153rd Infantry Brigades three Battalions. To finish it I need to complete the Carrier Company and the 6 stands of truck transport which represent the motor pool.

I also still need to do the Battalion Headquarters stands for the Battalions I've completed to date and then a Brigade Headquarters stand for those as well. I want to do these on bigger 60mm x 60mm bases and make them into little dioramas. Still not sure what i'll do with these yet.

For the moment I've run out of my 6mm WW2 bits  so time for a bit of a topping up me thinks of the lead pile! In other news I've just ordered some of Studio Miniatures Zombies from North Star as they are having an amazing sale which is around 50% off the usual price.

Last of the regulars

Just finished the last stand of bog standard British Naps that I had (green facings this time). I'll have to order some more, got six stands of highlanders to paint next while I wait on a delivery of some of the lovely new WW1 Brits that Baccus have.

Spot the difference

I am aware that today's post looks remarkably similar to the previous one, but that's because I've painted basically the same base of figures with the same flag and facings again. I've completed 6 stands in total now which i'm pretty pleased about.

Working on a seventh at the moment which will have green facings then I have some 6mm Highlanders to do.

I'm still oddly uninterested in painting anything 28mm at the moment (it just seems like to much hassle) who knows that might pass at some point.

More Naps

In between some terrain projects I finished another stand of my 6mm Napolionics. Given I haven't painted much over the last year or so I was pretty pleased with how these turned out.

Over the weekend I hope to finish a couple of building projects to share.

A little house

Bit of progress on the house the last couple of days, I've added the clay to the front, and two sides and sculpted the brick texture. The pictures are a bit pants but show the scale of the building which I think is spot on for 28mm figures. Already planning my next order of buildings so I can start building a town!

Once done I'll post some proper pictures.

Spot of modelling

So after 2 months of living in a hotel in Romford for work I'm back home again for a few days (possibly longer, depends what work has for me next). I've made a start on my Salute loot namely some perry's Desert Rats which I'm going to paint up for VBCW, but that's for a future post.

What I'm working on now is Petite Properties small cottage, pictured above. Its an MDF carcass building with a great set of instructions on how to tart it up. I'll blog my progress with the kit, all I've done at the moment is prepare the inside floor of the cottage, using air dry clay.

Simply enough I covered the base in clay then scribe'd a flag stone pattern out on it. Having left it to dry for 24 hours i then sponged on a suitable stone colour which is shown below. I'm undecided as to whether I'll clay clad the exterior walls and scribe on a brick pattern or do something different.
